DANCE AUDITIONS
Tuesday, Sept 12 3:15-5:30pm
Everyone should come prepared to dance - wearing jazz shoes (if you own them). If you have tap shoes, bring those too (there is a large tap number in the show). Make sure to bring a change of clothing - athletic clothing is appropriate, jeans are not. Ms Chrissy will teach you a routine to perform. You may be asked to show us acrobatic tricks, skateboarding tricks and your stamena. Some cast members will fly in this show.
Anyone with dance experience should also prepared a 60-90second solo routine to show us your skills. Bring music to perform to (we can easily hook up your phone to the PA).

VOCAL AUDITIONS
Wednesday, Sept 13 3:15-5:30pm
Everyone who wants to be cast in The Spongebob Musical including dancers, gymnists and those who are cast to fly, must attend the solo audition. You need the piano sheet music for your audition. Anyone auditioning can choose their own song from a musical theater show or you can prepare one of the songs from this link. Please bring in printed piano music for our music director to play along with you.
In The Spongebob Musical , the majority of roles dance at some point (or roller skate or skateboard, or heely) Everyone, regardless of your experience, will need to attend the choreography/dance audition day. There is Jazz, Musical Theater, Tap, and Ballet in this show.
Dancers /EVERYONE HAS TO SING. All musicals need dancers to sing - but not necessarily by themselves. Please bring all your dance shoes to the audition. If you do not consider yourself a singer, it's ok. We believe in you.
EVERYONE who auditions, regardless of your speciality, must attend and give it their best effort.
Once you are done singing, you can go home.

Schedule for Musical
We will be rehearsing after school Monday through Friday starting September 18 through the second weekend of December 2023 until about 5:30 or 6pm. Rehearsals can go longer closer to the performance dates. For this production not every student will not all have the same rehearsal schedule in the beginning. Mandatory rehearsals will include Thanksgiving weekend. This is full team commitment - please be prepared to make it. If you feel it is too much, maybe this is not the season you participate in. See the calendar on the rehearsal schedule page for a printable guide.
HS Students WHO DO SPORTS
Fall sports start Aug 21 and finish end of October (unless they go longer with states) The musical rehearses through fall sports. Depending on the sport it is possible to participate in the show, but its a case by case situation. The musical performs the first week winter sports begin. With only one week overlap, if you talk to your coach about rescheduling your tryouts, we may be able to make this work. Every situation is different, but the musical team is not a second choice. It needs a committment - just like any team.

Some suggestions -
Work on your stamina. Being in a musical is hard work.
You need to be physically fit, mentally sharp, willing to work hard and be a good team player.
Work on harmonizing - sing the third to your favorite pop artist while driving in your car. Anything that keeps your skills sharp
Not everyone will have the same rehearsal schedule- until Novemeber. Then it's NO MISS NOVEMBER. Than everyone is called everyday and rehearsals become mandatory. Also, please note rehearsals on the weekends are very important in November. They only happen at the end and they are with a live, professional orchestra. These MUST be taken seriously and students must attend.
Never give up. This is just good advice.

7HS Students WHO DO SPORTS
Our shows sometimes can cast doubles for fight scenes and background chorus members or help running backstage - to join us in the beginning of November right after your season ends. So if your schedule is really tight but you REALLY REALLY want to participate, please attend the meeting on Sept 7 and let us know. We cant guarentee we'll find a spot for you but it doesnt hurt to ask. You CAN be a part of the club and thus participate in a limited capacity. Rehearsals will begin as soon as your season is over. But be aware it's our go time, so you will be jumping into the thick of things. Remember - we are not second place to another team. Our team is just as important.

INSTRUMENTALISTS - auditions Sept 26
Those interested in playing in the Stage Band for the show will audition with a piece below. You should down load the piece ahead of time to practice (recommended) or you may sight read on the spot (not recommended but an option). Rehearsals will be 3 days a week after school (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) until Nov when it will increase to five days a weekand include weekends rehearsals with the rest of the professional musicians. Stage Band is also expected to help out tech week and participate in fundraising, pot luck and all group activities. They are part of the cast/crew. Please note we do NOT take everyone. You have to be good enough to play with professionals. Typically they are upperclassmen who get the seats. This is determined by the MD's. Please talk to Mr Owens if you have any questions about auditions or the selection listed below.
