At 8:00pm on November 20th and 21st Masquers will perform Moliere’s “The Miser”. A 17th century French farce, Masquers student design team has chosen to perform the show with a bit of a twist. Think commedia dell ‘arte within an insane asylum. The students have designed an intricate set based on an industrial playground, and the costumes and makeup look more like period pieces taken through the ringer by Marat Sade. Everything is student designed and created, as we will be taking “The Miser” to compete with the Massachusetts Drama Guild in February 2010. Tickets for the November performances are $10.00 and can be purchased starting November 16th at North Reading High School.
On Saturday, October 17th at 7:30pm Masquers will host an A cappella concert featuring Ithacappella (with 2006 Masquers alumni Dave Grossman), NRHS’ Notorious, and the NRHS Concert Choir. The A cappella concert will follow two days of vocal workshops open to all middle school and high school students. Recently, Ithacappella has received several awards and accolades including being named best male ensemble in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella as well as taking home awards for best soloist and best vocal percussion. Ithacappella was also honored to share the stage with Grammy-nominated rock group Incubus, performing their hit "Dig" in front of thousands of fans. This event continues Masquers’ commitment to sponsoring different performance art for the North Reading community. All tickets are $5.00 and will go on sale October 13th.
