"THE KITCHEN" by Arnold Wesker
The Kitchen, a play by Arnold Wesker, recently served as the selection for Masquers' annual fall play. The production will now be adapted into a 40 minute showcase for the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild (METG) One-Act Festival.
In keeping with METG guidelines (as well as true Masquers fashion), the show is completely student designed and built. A culmination of ideas brought forth by the advanced technical theatre class led to the set's distinctly "mod" feel. Angular metal and pipe structures surround modified kitchen appliances and glowing plexiglass. Although slightly off-kilter to innocent onlookers, the style spells perfection to the restaurant's proud owner, Marango. From atop her office she watches over the exhausted staff, all of whom are on edge due to their hectic schedules. The relations between employees intensify as he tale unravels. The kitchen's main chef, Peter, an expert in his field, is torn in two by his love for Monique and his distaste for he work environment which Marango creates. Missed us the first time? Want to see it again? Stay tuned for more information on how you can catch the new cutting of The Kitchen on March 19, 2011 in Fall River, MA.
